Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a friend to my fleet?

Go to the Fleet tab → tap the person+ icon. Either share your Crew ID with them (so they can enter it on their phone), or scan their QR code. Both of you must add each other to see each other on the map.

My friend doesn't appear on the map.

Why isn't my location updating in the background?

Boat Buddies uses "When In Use" location — your position only updates while the app is open. Background location is on the roadmap.

How does the Float Plan work?

From the Profile tab, tap File a Float Plan, choose a destination, ETA, and one of your fleet members as your designated watcher. If you don't tap Mark Arrived Safely by the ETA, your watcher receives an alert on their phone.

Note: alerts currently fire when your watcher's app is foregrounded or recently used. Boat Buddies is not a substitute for filing a real float plan with the Coast Guard or trusted shore contacts.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Email jeffersongallo17@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my account" and include your 6-character Crew ID. We'll permanently delete all your data within 30 days.

How does Spotify integration work?

Connecting Spotify lets your fleet members see what you're currently playing. Disconnect anytime in the Profile tab. Your Spotify password is never shared with us — we use Spotify's official OAuth login.

Do I have to pay for anything?

Why are some marinas missing?

Marina and fuel-dock data comes from OpenStreetMap, a free community-maintained map. If a marina near you is missing, you (or anyone) can add it on openstreetmap.org and it'll appear in the app on next refresh.

Boat Buddies is provided as a recreational tool. It is not a substitute for proper marine navigation equipment, licensed charts, weather services, or filing a Coast Guard float plan. Always carry required safety equipment, monitor VHF channel 16, and use proper judgment on the water.
